CORIAN

What is Corian® and how is it used?
Corian® is the original solid surface material, which was invented by DuPont in the mid-1960s. Uniquely beautiful, durable and practical, Corian® quickly created a new standard in kitchen surfaces when it was introduced. Today, as the ultimate vertical and horizontal surface, Corian® is used to create everything from countertops and wall cladding to furniture and lighting. And while it is used widely in the residential market, it is fast becoming the “material of choice” in an ever-increasing range of commercial segments including healthcare, hotels, shop-fitting and marine.

What’s special about Corian®?

  • Solid Performance
  • Corian® is made of natural minerals and high-performance acrylic – a combination that gives it a number of advantages over other materials. Corian® is non-porous, making it resistant to stains and bacteria. Being solid, with color running all the way through, there is no coating or layering to peel, wear away, chip or scorch, making Corian® extremely durable and easy to clean.

Where damage may occur, Corian® is easily renewable – burns, stains and scratches are removed with a household cleaner or fine sandpaper, returning the material to its original beauty.

  • Design Versatility
  • Corian® combines the best of a number of natural materials – it has the smoothness and substance associated with stone and the workability of fine wood. Corian® is also easy to maintain and is versatile in terms of design.

Manufactured in the form of sheets, Corian® is joined together with a special adhesive, giving a smooth, seamless appearance and creating the impression that an entire area is made from a single piece of Corian®.

Corian® can be carved, sanded and polished to create a variety of shapes and finishes. It can also be thermoformed or shaped using heat. This workability enables Corian® to form elegant rounded shapes like welcoming reception desks or softly curved washbasins, and to create stunning decorative effects. The only real limit is the designer’s imagination.

  • Colors of Corian®
  • One of the many advantages of Corian® is its color offering. Employing expert color forecasters to predict the trends of the future, DuPont produces Corian® in a wide variety of colors and textured looks from classic and timeless to bold and daring. There are over 100 colors currently available, each designed to match almost any interior design style, and to complement other materials - such as wood, ceramic tile, stone and stainless steel – beautifully.

The colors of Corian® are organized in chromatic order from the lightest hues to the darkest and brightest. This format makes it easy for consumers, architects and designers to select the exact shade they want from the comprehensive color palette.

In addition to the Corian® color palette, DuPont also offers to produce special custom colors for commercial projects.

How do I know Corian® will last?

Corian® is a very long-lasting material – the fact that many 20-year old Corian® installations still look like new today testifies to its extreme durability.

To ensure complete customer satisfaction, DuPont offers reassurance in the form of the DuPont Corian® Quality Network. This means that if Corian® has been fabricated and installed by an authorized fabricator (or installed by an authorized Corian® Service Centre), installations are covered by a 10-year Limited Installed Warranty. The Warranty says that if the material or the installation is found to be defective, it will be repaired or replaced according to the Corian® warranty terms.

How do I know I’ll be satisfied with Corian®?

Research conducted by independent market research firms for DuPont in 1996 shows that 98% of people who own Corian® give the material the ultimate vote of confidence – not only would they buy it again themselves, but they would also recommend it to their friends.
